A Framework for Anonymizing GSM Calls over a Smartphone VoIP Network
نویسندگان
چکیده
The proposed framework describes a service for users that gives them the ability to make gsm calls from their smartphones without revealing their identity. The principle to achieve that is simple: instead of using your cell phone to make a call, pick somebody else’s phone to do so. We proposed an infrastructure of smartphones, sip registrars and sip proxies to provide caller anonymity. We developed a testbed where a smartphone registers on a SIP registrar and can start GSM conversation through another smartphone acting as a GSM gateway, by using a SIP proxy. Empirical evaluation revealed no significant QoS degradation.

A novel mechanism for anonymizing Global System for Mobile Communications calls using a resource-based Session Initiation Protocol community network
Considering the widespread adoption of smartphones in mobile communications and the well-established resource sharing use in the networking community, we present a novel mechanism to achieve anonymity in the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM). We propose a Voice over Internet Protocol infrastructure using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) where a smartphone registers on a SIP reg...

The SIP protocol was standardized by the IETF at the application layer for initiating, managing, and terminating multimedia sessions and has been widely used as the main signaling protocol on both the Internet and VoIP networks. Most challenges in this protocol are overload and lack of proper state distribution. These challenges cause a wide range of next-generation network users to face a shar...
متن کاملBoxed Out: Blocking Cellular Interconnect Bypass Fraud at the Network Edge
The high price of incoming international calls is a common method of subsidizing telephony infrastructure in the developing world. Accordingly, international telephone system interconnects are regulated to ensure call quality and accurate billing. High call tariffs create a strong incentive to evade such interconnects and deliver costly international calls illicitly. Specifically, adversaries u...
متن کاملVoice over IEEE 802.11b Capacity
In this paper, we study the VoIP capacity of IEEE 802.11b (DCF), i.e., the maximum number of simultaneous voice calls that can take place in a WLAN cell. This capacity is highly dependent on the chosen codec and on the distance from the access point (AP) to the users. Thus several codecs are studied, namely G711, GSM-EFR, and G723.1. All users are assumed to be at a fixed distance from the AP. ...

Meshed wireless back-haul networks are seen as an affordable technology to bring Internet connectivity into rural and previously unconnected regions. To date, the main focus is to provide access to classical services such as the WWW or email. Access to such services requires the users to use a personal computer or a recent smart phone. Especially in developing regions, the prevailing end user d...
